It seems like there are new anti-aging skin care routines coming out every day. So, it may be surprising for many people to learn that a number of these new trends have roots dating back to the ancient Egyptians. Some of our most popular anti-aging skin care techniques have been used for thousands of years by ancient Egyptian royalty and have continued to stand the test of time.
Natural Anti-Aging Skin Care
One of the most popular trends in anti-aging skin care today is the use of natural plant oils to treat several different issues, from ailments to normal signs of aging. Ancient Egyptians relied heavily on plant oils for their skin care needs, using many of the same essential oils that we used today. They had oils that were specifically intended to moisturize the skin, oils that were intended to fade wrinkles, and even oils that they used to fade stretch marks on women’s bodies following childbirth. The use of plant oils is one of the oldest skin care traditions and will surely remain a staple in the world of natural anti-aging skin care.
The Earliest Exfoliators
Ancient Egyptian women, including Cleopatra herself, understood how important exfoliation was for healthy, youthful skin. Today, we have made many advancements in skin care and can safely exfoliate without having to scrub at the skin. In ancient times, however, they used what we call mechanical exfoliators today. They would mix sand with aloe vera to create a product that removed dead skin cells, making way for new ones to grow in their place.
Cosmetics as a Religious Rite
Today, many women wear cosmetic products that both make them feel beautiful while delivering essential vitamins and minerals to their skin. Ancient Egyptian women wore makeup as a way of honoring their gods. They would crush precious stones or medals and then mix them with water or oil to create cosmetic products.
Skin care is an ever-evolving industry but there are some practices that will continue to be mainstays for healthy skin. Plant-based oils have been used since ancient times to treat several different issues and even more, advanced treatments such as exfoliators were available to women in ancient times. Although our methods have changed slightly, we still incorporate many of these ingredients into our products today. To learn more about organic skin care, please click here.
